Marshall Applewhite, the cofounder and leader of the suicide cult Heaven’s Gate. In the early 60’s Applewhite was a teacher at the University Of Alabama. It was at this school that he was fired for pursuing a sexual relationship with a male student. In 1972 Applewhite met Bonnie Nettles with whom he would go on to form an early version of Heaven’s Gate with. In October 1996 Applewite, then known as “Do” and most the members of the cult committed suicide in their Rancho Santa Fe mansion.
